being cut and paste from the concept2.com site, month first, then day, then year.

And I do believe one of the forum members has a sub 6 minute 2000m time, so I expect the rest of his times would be mind numbing in pace too...

jesus, sub six minutes is incredible, those sorts of times must be done by an ex rower, and a bloody good ex rower at that!
My historical p.b's are generally at least 4 years old so i cant remember most of them accurately, 2km ergs were the ones we focussed on and 6.39 was my best then, but havent done anything close to that in the last few years
Its a matter of faith...

I dare say that ex rower must have been an international? Did a 6.28 over 2k about 6 weeks ago. Havent really done any other testing type ergs recently. Those times of yours are pretty good though Bartman, especially over some of the longer distances. Do you or have you rowed before? Do you want to?

Never rowed, but now love it, no clubs nearby really, so will have to make do on the concept2!  Would probably fall out of a real boat!!

Thats a shame mate. There is a category for first year rowers at national champs too. Pretty competitive but also a lot of fun. If you ever move to Tauranga......
Also, I vote that we dont let any of the elite squad see this board.

hatters, what about a level of veteran first year rowers - 35 now, meaning I can play golden oldies rugby - must be Golden Odies rowing too eh...

Youd be surprised at some of the people who participate in the normal novice class. A couple of years back there was a guy in the winning 8 who was in his fifties i think. That crew was pretty dominant too. Theres a lot of older guys especially taking it up competitvely now, and they are competitve. Last season the hamilton mens novice crew had a 38 year old guy who used to play for the stormers apparently. With your erg times id say youd be more than adequate. In fact your times over the longer distance would be as good as at least half of the Tauranga mens squad!
They do have masters games every year but im not sure if there is a novice category in that.

5000 metres 20:06. Great forum idea. One of these days I'll break the 20 minute barrier.

I have a freak of a mate who does sub 6, but yes he has rowed for Australia in several international compotitions. My claim to fame being i sat behind him at 7 seat at school when we won our Head of the River! I'm just proud of pulling a few sub 7's in my time. Just joined a new gym with the concept 2, after a few more weeks training i'm going to give the 500m and 2000m a go! Will be lucky to get out alive i fear!
Never forget the freak 2 years below us at school pulled ~6:50 as a 14 yr old. Beat about half of the 1st eight too, pity for him he was a big barstard and rowing in a boat takes alot more than brute strength. Just ask anyone who every rowed against our crew, 10Kg lighter per man than every other crew on the water for our entier senior year. And our average ergo times where about 20-30seconds worse too! (that's including the afore mentioned international who at the time was pulling 6:20's)
