twentyonethousandandnintysevenmetres of pain.
Did one this morning. 1:21:21.1
Great mind battle as you go along, but managable.
the first 1097 metres 'don't count' as they are just the warm up, which leaves 20,000m, which you split into two lots of 10, which you know you can do in a doddle.
Starts getting hard with about 12000 to go, but when you hit the 10550, you know you have less left to do than you have done, so it gets easier from there on in, sort of.
Once you get down to single digit thousands of metres to go, it gets way easier, but still hurts - mainly your butt cheeks.
another landmark that you cruise past at about 15,000 metres is the hour mark, which is the longest I had ever rowed in a sinlge sitting before. So up until you hit the hour, you tell yourself it is all easy, you have done this before. Once you hit the hour, you tell yourself there is only 5,000 metres or so left, you've done that a million times before - just a measly 20 minutes at a cruise.
Average was 1:55.8/500m. powered through the last 1000 at 1:50 rate, dropping to 1:40 for the last 300 or so, so had plenty of left in the tank, didn't know how hard to go from the start.

a 10k row - is NOW a doddle, unlike the first time I did one, which was like a half marathon!!
After getting off the rower, I thought how he hell do these bastards do full marathons on these things. I reckon I could, but I don't think I want to row for 3 bloody hours!!

That's awesome. It would have been interesting to have weighed yourself before and after as you tend not to drink while rowing.

The half marathon thing I don't find that amazing, - especially following the bubble wrap on the seat tip! You just sit & cruise.
But doing it at 1.55... jeysus, seriously how fit are you? Thats bordering on freakish it really is! I can do 60 minutes - but I'm doing it at 2:10, maybe 2:07 on a (very) good day and I think I'm pretty fit, but 2.10 to 1.55 is the difference between doing a 4 hour marathon & a 2 hour one.. top effort

...like listening to a recording, played in a continuous loop, of a man vomiting up his digestive tract while being bum-raped by a kodiak bear.

Ouch
Thought I would be able to cruise in under an hour and a half but the last 2.5kms were brutal. Still it's not an awful time.

Yeah I've been working from home a lot recently so I've had time to do at least 50k a week
Althoguh I don't think I'll be attempting the half marathon again for a while - it was pure evil

After reading the Thread title, and then seeing your times, I was deeply humiliated by my half marathon taking 1:49. But then I realised you boys were talking about rowing machines, and my time was for a road run.
FYI: have entered the 2007 Auckland Marathon in October and I'm also seriously contemplating doing the Wanganui Half Marathon in December in character: black singlet, gummies, potai etc.
