The Bay Of Plenty Rugby Union are thrilled to announce they have secured the services of 2006 New Zealand Colts, Matthew Wallis and Solomon King to contracts for the next two seasons, with the right of renewal for a longer term.

Wallis and King have had BOPRU Collective contracts since 2003, and both have progressed through the successful BOPRU Academy system.

Wallis, NZ Colt 2006 and a member of the NZRFU Grade One Academy and King, NZ Colt 2006 and current NZ Sevens representative are two players that newly appointed Head Coach Kevin Schuler is expecting to push established players for starting positions in 2007.

“I am thrilled that two of our most talented local players have shown complete faith and loyalty to the Rugby Union that has given them the opportunity to progress their talents onto the Air New Zealand Cup field and hopefully beyond”.
“Matt and Solomon are very much in our planning for the next few years and I expect them to now start putting pressure on the established starting XV in 2007”. Schuler stated.

Another talented local player and New Zealand Colt in 2006, Lance MacDonald has secured a final trial position with the NZ Colts Team for 2007.
This trial will take place in Palmerston North  from 27-30 April when a squad of 26 will be selected to prepare for a Training and Development Camp then a match vs Canada, from the period 13 to 24 June 2007.

Went a long to the Tga Sports,Tepuke Sports game today and had a look at some of the prospective Bay players .Culum Retallick the lock signed from Canterbury looks not to bad ,gets around the Field well ,good at line out time and looks like he wont take any shit.He might not start for the Bay but he will be in the mix.Marcel Cummings-Toone was out standing totally out playing Simon Chisholm and will push John Pareanga for the hookers berth.Wayne Hughson for the Twenty minutes he was on was all class and scored a great try ,Murray Williams try ed hard but to be honest the Tepuke pack was going backwards all day and the ball he got was pretty static. As for the rest Ants was at his bustling best and the old man at the back Andy Miller still has a great rugby Brain.

Great to hear you were at the game, Tony.  Next time it might help if you actually opened your eyes instead of snoozing up the top of the grandstand.

Murray and Ants were custard, Miller got stood up twice by a couple of schoolboys, and Retallick will be the world's best lock once he learns how to jump.  I'd imagine it's a pretty important task for a lock.

Well i guess Leech if i was snoozing in the grandstand you must have been in a coma or maybe you were up playing croquet with your Friends. But from the Cameron rd side you would have seen Ants skin your school Friend on more than a couple of occasions,as for Andy Miller Leech at 35 he still knows his way round the rugby Field and if he gets nailed a couple of times so what.As for Retallick ,he was jumping two in line out and between my cat naps he was taking his line out ball and a bit of Tepukes as well .Anyway Leech the main thing is we were at club rugby and myself and my kids enjoyed it immensely.

Amen to that, Tony.  My girlfriend didn't enjoy it as much though... must have been all my snoring... :)

Ants Tahana looks a lot bigger these days though doesn't he...and not necessarily chubbier either.  It's like men against boys sometimes bringing S14 blokes back into club rugby.
