Go the Bay; you should have come and watched the pre-season games. Cummings-Toone has been injured while Simpkins played strongly. King took his chance to impress also. It all smells of competition for selection. It looks like selectors may just have the balls to pick on form. Whether it's good enough to test Canterbury who knows?

Marcel has looked over awed in his time on the field, while Simpkins has looked like a mobile swinging arm, just ask any Waikato forwad from last weeks game, I think he would have tagged them all by the end of the game...

And King looked better than Bourke in that game too, although bourlke was flued up or something apparently.

Not a bad lineup I reckon.

seen a few of the club games.. and cummings-toome's form looked a stretch better than simpkins.. understand re the awe comment thou! will be very interesting tomorrow night

i understand it was a case of the ole bung eye - conjuntivitis that has been plaguing bourkey! apparently warren smith was the culprit who spread it!!  :afro:

gotta feel sorry for paereanga tho! injury after injury! will be interesting to see if he makes it on the field this year if he'll last the season with out any more injury's.  :shifty: my money would be on another injury  :idiot2:

nothing wrong with a bit of competition for starting though!! may keep these guys on their toes!! all that said still a pretty stong line up - even from the bench?

I am fearing a sound thrashing from the Cantabs - in the last 2 seasons we have started slowly and this time around, we don't seem sure of our best side. We need our loosies to cause havoc, a solid line-out and scrum and make all our tackles. Pretty much like every other game then ........

Although i will support all BoP players, Im not a fan of Ngarimu..he is far too capable of leaving our team with 14 players. Especially against a team the Cantabs, that does not do you any favours

Was the last competition game he started for the Bay the semi against the Cantabs in 2004?

Im sure Sportboy would correct us if we were wrong, but I believe that to be true..

Mind you Aleki was immense that year and we never looked as strong when he got injured(so were a few other key players though too)

Correct you, BI??!!  The very thought!

Last game was that semi... he then had a serious falling out with coaching staff over his end of season review (mainly because of that game!)

3-3 at the moment... sounds like Solomon King going well again....

haha told you!!! be interesting to see what happens from here!!!

can anyone honestly tell me when they last say murray williams play a half decent game!! if we lose this game i believe it will be because of mullys lack of being able to find touch and the fact the murray williams does not have enough foresight as a first 5!!

and that was borderline!! wouldnt it be prudent to actually select a side based on their form rather than there name or reputation????

not a bad start to the season for the boys! although cant help but think that they were being humoured in the first half?  what happened to the back line strength that bay was going to bring to the npc? barely heard aporo schuster mentioned? though like paeranga not surprised that aporo didnt last a whole game without injury!! lets hope its just a niggle although hughson quite capable of stepping up!!young guys often seems a little star struck out there  :nta

soloman king to my surprise played well!! gunna take a bit more tho before i believe he is a starter over bourke! bourke still a fav at number 8.. defence and attack and dare i say it presence!! adding the lippi to warren smith has done wonders for his game!! the guy was my pick of bay player of the match....

not convinced on the back line! think that there is new blood needed out there! bit of speed and foresight! be interesting to see mahjon back in.. mix it up a bit!

To be fair to the backline, they didn't get a lot of ball and almost zero front foot ball. That happens when almost every line-out is lost and the scrum is under pressure. And Aporo was sconed by the thug O'Neill.

I wouldn't say we were humoured in the first half, just showed great guts and grit to hold out - can only do that for so long as it showed in the second half when we started to fall off tackles.

And I'm with you on Lippi - great game.
