Power Output (Watts)

Hi Rowers,

just curious as to the watts you guys are putting out on the rowing machine. I was listening to an interview on the radio with one of the NZ cycling team's coachs talking about Hayden Roulston and how his power output in the IP averages at 550-560 watts! At the start of the race to get up to speed he is outputting 1200.
His power output is higher than Wiggins but he is a bit bigger as well.
As a comparison he was saying that your average decent club cyclist powers about 300.

Anyway, this made me think of how rowing machines calculate a power output and am curious as to how those cycling numbers compare.

have never looked - will change the setting to watts and see what numbers I am pulling!!

Did a 8050m 30 minute row day or so ago, watt output on average was 250 for that 30 minute.

That sounds pretty good for a 30 minute stretch.

Interesting - 1200 Watts = 1.2 kW = about 1.6 horsepower. Not bad for a man!!
