If someone charges down a kick, it then gets put dead by the defending team, isn't this effectively a carried back situation?

Depends where the kick was charged - it goes off who put the ball into the in-goal. If the ball was charged out of the in-goal and ends up inside it or going dead - then the charger is deemed to have put it there.
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

I seem to recall a couple of differing calls this year....someone got it wrong!
