After 9 months of this shit I just need to lose another 4kg to be just overweight.

Seem stuck on the 112 I've been on the last 6 weeks but am hoping it is a bit like the slow down I had soon after passing the 20kg loss stage.

Currently have lost 33kg... and according to the BMI index at 108 I will be just overweight and no longer Obese. (Still got to get to 90kg to be Healthy.)

My Knees fucked... Specialist said I need a new one and the sooner the better as I'm doing a bit of damage to the top of my shin bone (... lower bit of knee)

It's not a small key hole op either but a new plastic Knee, Doc reckons I should consider getting both done as other is showing a bit of wear and tear as well but as he's not offering a 2 for the price of 1 I think I'll pass for now. At least my heel spur is heeling (although apparently I'm getting knee spurs?) and the carpel tunnel has improved enough that that specialist has decided I don't need the op anymore after saying I badly needed it 3 years ago when I had my last set of tests. Nothing like hand brakes and clutches on motorbikes to fix that problem. (although the doc reckoned it had nothing to do with it)

I used the beer icon because I am refusing to give that up.... lifes to short.

Probably best to get that op while you are younger, and before you absolutely have to have it and are an old coot.

And mate, stop looking at the BMI, it's a load of shit.

Yep, anybody that's tall/short/has a decent amount of muscle gets distorted results.

Or pregnant - my wife almost was refused residency on the basis she was morbidly obese. Our doctor had to write back that she was in fact seven months pregnant.

My left knee has had alot of work done on it now and is going to require a full replacement at some stage. But the surgeon said the opposite, leave it as long as you can because the replacement knees only have a 15 year shelf life.

I didn't know that, gee that's not long. I'm mixing up my advice from heart surgery to be honest, which isn't very relevant to the knee.

Im guessing the technology/material will get better and better in the future though.

My guy is saying 20-25 yrs.....

He says the time periods are based on how long ago the ones they are replacing now were originally done. So hopefully it will be longer.

With me it's time (or so he says)
No cartilage...
Bone on bone in the knee joint (very evident in the X-Ray)
Knee bone spurs... Like Heel spurs but can actually have the effect of jamming the knee while bent and the pain (and crack) when you force it straight again isn't good. (Reason I've stopped push biking)
Interrupting sleep... I wake up every nigh with knee pain... sideways pressure. Try to sleep with knee hanging over the side of the bed.
Lack of trust in the knee to take my weight. It’s OK if braced and straight but I don’t trust it if it’s bent, thus other knee does all the leading and lifting.

Am booking it in for March next year… Am getting the Wannabies team Doctor to check out the surgeon for me, don’t want a butcher. Warren has heard of him (and so far all good) but never worked with him. He’s going to ask a couple of colleges about him for me once he returns from NZ.

Gonna cost me about $2000 but as it’s been part of the problem to me putting on the weight and isn’t helping in the losing of said weight I’m better to do it now and soon.

"Normal" weight seems pretty scrawny to me, any muscle mass will be counting against you.

Gee how thing change in a month....

Knee was really getting bad.... needed 2 separate doses of pain killers just to get some sleep.
But found out a few things my surgeon told me are not necessarily as correct as I first thought.
The 20-25 year lasting thingy for a start was thought to be a little on the pessimistic side.
I'd need 6 weeks off work, (not even allowed to drive for most of that), Don't know where he got the walking out of the hospital rubbish.
And it would be a full blown knee replacement with the cutting out of the existing crook one.... I saw the avi..... Not keen.
(It helps knowing a doc who is used to explaining things in a simplistic way, suppose he's used to it having to patch up Mortlock and the other Aussie Wannabies.)

Result... I think I'll delay the replacement for a while longer.
Have stopped running (still doing the same distances but walking them for now, just takes longer)
This has helped a lot, knee doesn't hurt as much, have stopped taking pain killers although sleep is still being interrupted but normally just requires me to change the knees position. And my afternoon Limp isn't as noticeable as it was.
Problem... no weight loss for 10 weeks now and still needs to lose another 4kg to be just overweight. (At least I haven't gained any)
Didn't help spending two whole weeks with the wife and family and the food intake got increased.... swear it's her way of trying to stop me attracting other woman.

Will probably start looking at doing the Gym thing or adding a bit of swimming soon just to get it dropping again, especially now that running is off the cards.
Am really trying to be good with the food intake over the next week and a half as well, I think it's helping... I'm constantly as hungry as hell

Sounds like you need zero impact cardio + resistance training mate, to state the obvious.

Have you tried walking in a swimming pool. You can use a weighted belt to help reduce buoyancy and you have 0 impact but a hell of a good work out

Number one would be quality of life mate - I have a friend who has a terrible knee and has been waiting for ages to get it sorted. He's on painkillers just to deal with day to day life. Limited mobility and it's just an all round drag. He'd jump (if he could) at an op asap.

It will definitely knock you back for a while (workmates partner had both knees done) and as you've seen with the footage its pretty hardcore. But if it's about regaining mobility then perhaps doing it sooner rather than later might be a better choice? Great to hear you are getting the good oil - absolutely need to go into something like this eyes wide open.

You should not need to be hungry when you are reducing your food intake. I reckon get to a food doctor if your gym has one, and that way you'll get enough of the right food to keep losing weight, but not be hungry at the same time. Despite my simple equation of eat less than you use to lose weight on that thread on the sports forum, it is a bit more complex than that. Eat the right foods and you'll be sorted on that front.

Walking is good - how foes rowing on the knee hold up? That would be a goody too, and of course cycling? My father with two hip replacements and 72 is now a concept 2 row a holic!
