Thames Valley 22 - 27 Poverty Bay
South Canterbury 13 - 23 King Country
Mid Canterbury 30 - 21 North Otago
Wairarapa-Bush 28 -15 Buller
Wanganui 33 - 09 West Coast
East Coast 03 - 44 Horowhenua

The end of the first round today and with most teams having chances of making the Meads Cup Division there were some vital clashes.

Teams that made it were Wanganui,Horowhenua-Kapiti and Wairarapa-Bush (their win over Buller taking them past West Coast and into 3rd place) from one group and Poverty Bay, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury confirmed from the other despite King Country tipping Sth Canterburyover in Timaru. With North Otago getting beaten in Ashburton it took the pressure off Sth Canterbury who go through despite their loss. Valley going close again but no cigar, next week maybe?

Cheers for the snippets Higgins. Some great games by the sounds of it.Good luck to your Bay side for the remainder.
Looks like Wanganui will have to be on song defending their title.
Keep up the good work mate.

The local reporter for RS was unbelievably bitter about this, he said South Canterbury played like girls.

Thanks Corporal, the Bay only just snuck in rather late in the piece in a match the could really have gone either way.
