Results from this week’s matches
Meads Cup
South Canterbury 34 28 Wairarapa-Bush
Poverty Bay 25 21 Horowhenua-Kapiti
Mid-Canterbury 23 14 Wanganui
Poverty Bay getting home in an exciting encounter to keep up the pressure on competitioin leaders (starting today) Wanganui after leading 15 - 12 at halftime. The Nua attacked strongly during the 2nd half and pressed strongly over the last 10 minutes but could not quite get the vital try that would have given them the win.
In Timaru it looked like the Bush would get home after leading 28 - 17 at half time but it was not to be with Sth Canrterbury playing well in the final 40 to get home and put some of the nightmares from last weeks flogging from Wanganui to rest.
In Ashburton the home side spat Wanganui out in what could only be described as a bit of a surprise given how well Wanganui had played last weekend. By my calculations this result sees Mid Canterbury and Poverty overtake Wanganui to become joint leaders in the Meads Cup although all three look safe for a semi-final position.
Lochore Cup
King Country 22 13 West Cost
North Otago 29 14 Buller
Thames Valley 10 16 East Coast
Title favourites North Otago were just a fraction too good and polished for visitors Buller and got home as expected.
Elsewhere the torment for Valley supporters goes on after what must surely have been one of the poorest ever results today, will they ever have a win this season? xzxhang1

There are three things I always forget. Names, faces - the third I can't remember.

With Buller next week I think we can all unfortunately say that Thames Valley will be the 26th ranked team in the country. xzxhang1

I drove past the Valley game in Te Aroha today, couldnt be bothered going in. I doubt there were 250 people there (including both teams and the ref). I will be interested to see the official figures. That was easily the home smallest crowd Ive ever seen for a Valley home game. In comparison we got about 800 for the local club derby game this year between COB and Waihou here in TA.
The most important player in any team is the tighthead prop. The second most important is the reserve tighthead prop.
