Sorry Breakers fans, your lads came to Cairns last night and got humbled, and now sit just above us on the ladder (ie right down the bottom).
The Breakers started well, but are not the same without Penney, and ended the game with half the team fouled out, resulting in a comfortable 13 point victory to the Taipans (approx the half time margin).
The ladder is pretty congested, with away wins like hens' teeth (to date there have been 37 home wins, and 9 away wins, neither the Breakers nor the Taipans have won on the road, hence their cellar-dwellar positions). Preseason favourites the Melbourne Tigers and the Breakers fill 2 of the bottom 3 spots. However the top teams' records look better as they have played less on the road, expect the ladder to tighten up as this imbalance is sorted out.
For what could have been a pretty shitty year with a taped together league, it actually looks like it could be pretty tight all season.

"I had my first refereeing sodomy in the semi-final last season against Clermot. I've just had my second tonight. It appeared to hurt the first time, but it was just as bad this time. We will review the images, not on YouTube, but on YouPorn" - Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal

i saw bits of that game, but after I realised they were going to get smashed, I turned it off.

Definitely going the way of the home teams so far. Breakers are getting nothing out of Foreman this season. The rotations by AL have been pretty poor as well. Not sure import likes the offense being run either. Bear is taking even more outside shots and the general flow on offense is so inconsistent.
I mention offence because thats where we should be winning games. We take our chances on D, but we are not a top 4 team defensively.
As you say mariner the ladder is pretty congested and I think the Breakers will still make the 4 in the end. What's interesting is no team has really put together a great number of wins on the trot which often happens
