Number eights. Four choices, fill your boots. One vote.

Rodney So'oialo
Rob Cribb
Kieran Read
Scott Robertson

This to me is about as clear cut as the openside and blindside threads. Much like his buddy Flavell if Cribb had actually played to his potential he'd possibly be winding up a 100 cap career around nowish....but of course this wasn't the case. Rodders pisses in here by virtue of playing so much and more often than not doing a sterling job.

Canerbry voted for Robertson? :D If Robertson is included in the choices shouldn't Xavier Rush as well?
Agree with MN5 re: Rodney and Cribb.
"it is not for me a question of whether Nepia was the best fullback in history. It is a question of which of the others is fit to loose the laces of his Cotton Oxford boots."

Rennie, Joseph, Russell, Penney, Hammett. The Mickey Mouse Canes keep rolling on.

I voted for Roberston

His 2002 season at no 8 is superior to the level Rodney reached IMO... longevity isn't the only decider or else we might as well just total up the caps in each position..

If I could find the lol smiley I'd have a row of them now. Robertson was a good flanker and a good eight, that was all. It's telling that he didn't stick around long as an 8.

Rodney is a better player, and he played longer.

Apologies Canerbry :D .

At the end of 2002 he made the mistake of telling one of the national coaches that he would leave NZ at the end 0f 2003. His career was retardly cut short because he was honest.

I voted for So'oialo but I tend to think he held his place through a lack of alternatives. He was the best of what we had. When he was at his best was when JC was too and obviously McCaw was holding court.

His job wasn't made easy but easier IMO. They were a tight unit and perhaps at times he was lauded over as on of the best because of it. I am a fan of Rodders but his lack of size, no matter how big his heart is, was sometimes too much of a hurdle. Still a bloody world class 8 but tend to agree that maybe Robinson shaded him. But couldn't justify voting for Razor, just didn't do enough for long enough.

Based on Duluths logic I'd be voting for Cribb for his 2000 form !

Talking of size Razor Robertson is hardly a monster compared to Rodders.....

I remember playing a drinking game that involved consuming every time Cribb was cautioned, pinged or did the dirty. Was pissed for most of the 2000 season.

Hmm, Mitchell and Deans cutting a Cantab, very surprising.
Although I tend to agree with MN5, if following the Duluth selection policy I would go with Cribb.

Bugger all difference between Razor and Rodders. A kg maybe. But I meant in comparison to opposing 8's Rodders was a little small in the time period he has played, more so in recent years obviously. Not in direct comparison with the other guys. My reasoning for Razor was that he seemed to pop up at the right time.
