Just reading through some articles on the net - hearlad etc, and Can't believe we've let the poof get off so easy.

As someone said, compassionate leave for births and deaths, sure, but because your chick is really, really upset, FFS.

Depends what's going on.. It has been suggested he's gone home to kick her out of his apartment

if it's just bc of the leaked pic and her packing a sad, then it's really soft

so it would be OK to leave the tour to break up with your girlfriend (basically). Barring death or birth, I think there is no excuse.

I am sure no ferners would be able to take time off from their work for a few days / weeks because their chick is feeling a little fragile!

UNless Pup is on the fern, then one ferner would be soft as the half set jelly that Pup is!

Unlikely we'll ever get the full story..

Ponting seems fine with it

I'm betting there's a lot more leeway on a tour to NZ than there is to India, SA or England. Normally they rest senoir guys from this tour anyway..

true, an couple of hours flight, but what happens when his tart pulls this on a 'real' tour? Sooner he is shot of her the better.

Hopefully hes gone back to give her the flick.
Than he can concentrate on getting some form back and making runs in the tests.

Interesting to see the Aussies abusing each other rather than the usual "Channel 9 commentary team" level of sycophancy for a change. 307 mostly scathing comments to read thus far: http://www.dailytele...0-1225838405757

Fuck-king Soft. When he returns i hope he cops even more shit than he should have early in the tour. I don't think the majority of Australians are on his side here either (pretty much only hairy-legged, full figured, Today/Tonight feminists, who are on Bingle's side over this whole sorry publicity-whore episode).

Between this, Katich having him (allegedly) by the throat in the changing rooms cause he wanted to fuck off early after a win to hang out at some premier with his b-grade celebrity, horse-toothed missus., he is hardly endearing himself to the powers that be where the future captaincy is concerned.

Although it does all fit in with what i have heard about the Aussie team these days, it is less a "team" more 11 guys who play cricket together during the day. Pity they are all so fucking good at it they don't need team harmony.

Thing is, they're not really THAT good compared to recent vintages of Aussie teams. They've looked good this summer because of the shit they've had to play against, thus they've managed to build a great deal of confidence which would probably see them through to the Ashes feeling pretty good about where they're at. Had they faced anyone of Sri Lanka, RSA or India this summer, they'd not look nearly as good as they do. Hell, I reckon even the Fleming-led NZ side that ran Waugh's Aussies close in 01/02 would beat this current crop.

I think that's why this team is so disliked by the Aussie public (C9 commentary team aside) - because they're not nearly as good as guys like Warne, McGrath, Waugh etc yet feel they have the right to behave like them.

Nearly all true but that is the Australian cricket team for you. Thats why we all hate them!! Just when you think they are dead they come back and knock you out!! Time and time again. They will weather this storm as well -just like they weathered the Warne issues years ago.
I do not sense that the Australian public dislike the team though - Clarke and his girlfriend yes - not the team.

I fully expect to see huge 'Where the bloody hell were you?' banners at the games when he returns.

Bingle is surely attention seeking and it seems to have backfired in a big way. She will now always be known as the girl that made the Oz VC leave a cricket tour because she was upset that a photo snapped by another sports star she was having an affair with showed the very same norks that she willingly has displayed for money previously.

I can understand wanting to support your partner but Clarke should have had the brains to get her to fly over here not the other way around. He could have faked a tight hammy and shacked up somewhere exclusive for a couple of days.

Reckon people might have been more forgiving had she not sold her story to a Women's mag. Hard to talk about dignity and respect if you are 22 and already have an affair with a married guy under your belt (so to speak).

I'm sure there are plenty of pretty girls in Oz who arent idiots, he should move on.

I don't think it's any small coincidence that 2 days prior to the photos being released, she signed with arguably Australia's slimiest, cheesiest celebrity agent. Basically all of his clients are "15 minutes of fame" types and anyone with any real talent, from what I can gather, avoids him like the plague.

Can't remember the source, but I read that before the $200k payout from Woman's Day (or was it No Idea?) Bingle hadn't had paid work in over a year.

Most people I know in Aus were going for the Black Caps just because they like seeing the Aussie cricket team lose

The crazy ockers down Cronulla beach with the commonwealth star and southern cross tattooed on their back may beg to differ. But there are certainly a few less people across the ditch home grown fans.

This is my fave paragraph in the article:

Lara Bingle’s decision to sue Brendan Fevola over the distribution of a near-naked photograph of the swimwear model strikes a blow for women’s rights, says celebrity agent Max Markson.

Ponting's probably fine with it because Clarke is a political little shit who's been angling for the captains job for the last two years.

I'm with Hooroo, this is bloody pathetic and Clarke should man the fuck up.

Like Crucial said, why didn't he just quietly fly her over here? It's not like she would have a hard time getting leave from her job...hell, she wouldn't even have to throw a sickie! Then she would have been out of the glare of the Aussie media and he wouldn't have looked like a whipped softie for flying back because she was having a tantrum. Jeez, I wouldn't mind being privy to what they are saying about it in the Aussie team right now.

I wonder if the NZ media would have run with it any more if it had been someone like Watson, Johnson or Haddin, rather than Clarke who normally comes across as quite a decent bloke...

I go onto the website of my former local paper (Courier Mail) most days and for about the last week or so this farking story about Bing has been amoug the lead stories. WTF is the big deal. A former boyfriend took a picture of her in the shower years ago. Shock, farking horror.

While Ponting and the others may say they're cool about this I don't think for a minute that they support him. His team mates will think he's a farking poof for this and it could even have undermined his chances of one day captaining the team. Imagine if an Allblack did something like this.
I looked out of my bedroom window this morning and there was a grey squirrel forlornly nibbling its own deep-frozen testicles on a pristine bed of snow

Everyone in this thread seems to be assuming he's gone home to conmfort her - which I agree would be soft.

However what the story is in Australaia at the moment is that he came home to dump her after he was pissed at her media resent whoring

I reckon Ponting and the rest of the team would be quite happy if this means that the ongoing Bingle distraction is gone..

I still don't see that as a reason to leave a tour halfway through. I'm sure he isn't the first sportsman to go on tour with relationship problems hanging over his head.

It's only a couple of ODIs which they probably considered resting him for anyway (Haddin, Ponting and Johnson have all been rested from games like these this season but Clarke for the most part has played through)
