Rugby heaven:

Injured All Black set to avoid shoulder surgery

Injured All Blacks utility back Richard Kahui is set for an earlier than expected return to rugby.
The crocked utility back could be back on the field in three to four weeks' time, according to All Blacks doctor Deb Robinson.
The 25-year-old saw a shoulder specialist in Auckland yesterday after injuring his right shoulder in the All Blacks' first Tri-Nations test win over the Springboks in Auckland.
There were fears he could be a long-term casualty, given the seriousness of the injury and the fact he'd previously had surgery on the same shoulder.
"Richard sustained a small fracture of the shoulder socket but the good news is that the injury is stable and improving rapidly and, at this stage, he doesn’t require surgery,'' Robinson said.
''Richard is now concentrating on strengthening work and rehabilitation and we will monitor him with an aim of getting him back into rugby in three to four weeks’ time.''
The All Blacks will assemble in Melbourne this weekend to prepare for the first test against Australia on Saturday July 31, with the return test against Australia the following weekend in Christchurch.

Good news, So potentially he could be back for the trip to south africa and the 3rd Bled game.

I wonder if they will bring him straight back in or stick with the players they have already.
All Blacks.

Kahui seems to me to be one of those players who can show sketchy form at Super 14 level, but put them in a Black jersey and they perform every time. He seems to thrive in the AB environment.

There's a thread idea—the "Shit the Bed, Except in Black XV" comprised of players who were sketchy at Super/NPC level, but dollar for dollar gold in Black. One F Bunce comes to mind.

JRok was a player who muddled at S14 - especially before he got selected originally - and played like a million tala when he played in black.

Seeing as he's only really had one horrible S14, I wouldn't really say that. And I think we've all put that down to Foster's asstastic coaching, which managed to turn what was a killer backline last year into a circus of injuries, confidence issues and rookies.

Rok on the other hand, yeah, he's had more bad S14 seasons than good ones but generally steps his game up when he moves up a level.

I thought Kahui had a pretty awesome S 14 last year.

This year he was crap.

Personally Im happy for the guy(should the injury allow him to continue in this season) and if he's available I'd happily have him in the squad. I think you can depend on him to step up when wearing the ABs jersey.

Was thinking last night that if Sonny Bill is to make the RWC squad, then - if everyone is fit - it's likely to be Kahui that he he has to displace.

At a maximum, they'll take 9 (possibly only 8) outside backs (and likely 3 halfbacks and 2 first fives). (14 backs - but, could be only 13).

At the moment, those with the inside running would appear to be: Nonu, Smith, Sivivatu, Jane, Muliaina, Kahui, Rokocoko, Toeava, Dagg (9).

Also in the queue: McAlister, Stanley, Ranger, Sonny Bill, Guildford, Gear, Ben Smith and sundry others that I've forgotten.

I'll stick my neck out - I don't think Rok will make it. I know many will disagree, and if he proves me wrong by being the player he was - let's call it "Jane-like" as in anything can happen when he gets the ball - I'll be happy. I think someone else - Kahui maybe - will take his place on the utility value they give the squad.

Pretty good problem to have i guess.
IMO Luke will have made his way back into the team by then so the competetion for spots is going to be very interesting.

Tony Woodcock had a S14 to forget also.
The most important player in any team is the tighthead prop. The second most important is the reserve tighthead prop.
