I have seen a few articles now previewing the ITM cup and some recurring themes are arising.
All of them predict BOP to be in the bottom 7, and the main reason given id the lack of depth.

I find this lack of depth accusation a bit bemusing. BOP have recruited significantly in the off season and I cantreally think of to many positions where we dont have great depth. Especially in the forwards. Has BOP ever had a better forward squad (in the pro era)? Not that I can remember.

Add some wing strike power, which is something we have lacked for some time now. Plus Delany returning in only a matter of weeks. The AB's have also been kind by dropping Latimer.

But having said all that... I like the fact that BOP are now underdogs. We always play better when people dont rate us.
Rugby Football is our game
Bay of Plenty is our name
We are the pride of all provincial rugby teams
Pass it here, pass it there, we are going to pass it everywhere.
We are the greatest team of all
We dont hold that ball to long, we just pass it right along
Play the game Bay of Plenty, play the game
Play the game Bay of Plenty, play the game

Yeah I see even the TAB don't give us a chance in the competition and against Waikato. May be a good chance to invest a lazy fiver..

I agree with the Baron, front 5 depth is significantly improved over last year (although we could have done with Moore and Goodwin fit), loosies look very strong especially with Latimer available. Moa replaces Junior, first five a worry with Delany & McCashin out at the moment, backline much improved with absence of Zar and addition of Masaga, McQuoid, Waenga, Mather and return of MacDonald.

Latimer will be outstanding in this campaign. And when he needs a week off, Braid will kick arse, and so too Cane.

Think we'll only have to go a few more weeks with question marks at first-five... though there may be a few weeks at the other end where the AB tour interferes again.

How long since DSW have beaten us in a NPC game? I think we won against all odds in 2004 as I recall. At the fortess.

2003 was the last NPC defeat - I remember it well, we caned them in the dev game and then were thrashed in the big one. This is a record we need to retain.

i got the Waikato media guide the other day - great to see no win over the bay since 2003 - thee consecutive losses in NPC, and another couple in pre NPC IIRC.

So could be five on the trot I think.

I went over in 2005 to watch them play in a preseason. We got smashed up by Kahui. zBut that was the only one since as I can recall

Seems the pre game talk was accurate Baron
