Sheesh, that is hard on Baswell-Wakefield, he played pretty well last week and now can't even make the 22.
Backs still look shaky as to me.
"it is not for me a question of whether Nepia was the best fullback in history. It is a question of which of the others is fit to loose the laces of his Cotton Oxford boots."

Rennie, Joseph, Russell, Penney, Hammett. The Mickey Mouse Canes keep rolling on.

Have there been any reports on how long Daniel Kirkpatrick will be out for?

Sometimes first impressions are not always the best but I am still very worried about the fullback position for the Magpies. Whoever is selected in that spot sure has big shoes to fill thanks the great play we have taken for granted from Israel Dagg these last three seasons. I guess you only find out for sure whether the guy in the No 15 jersey is up to it is by playing them so hopfully the selectors optimism is justified and there will be a marked improvement in the last line of defence as well as in the cohesion of the back three.

With there being so much at stake in this match as we strive to get our "The Bay" title back there simply cannot be any sentiment to any selections.
There are three things I always forget. Names, faces - the third I can't remember.

According to the HB today, the New Zealand Rugby Union has advised the Magpies to rest Kirkpatrick this week and review the situation next week.

Crikey. Who will be the replacement 1st 5 if you need one? Eaton I hope. Glad you are giving ROONEY another trot. Hopefully he hasnt had his arse kicked for his average game last week.

In saying that I dont think we will trouble him as much as he was troubled by the Cantabs unless our lot are rubbing their arses as much as they should be after the kicking they got for the average fare they served up against the moolooos

Sheesh, I didn't even notice that - I expect Fotuali'i will go to 10 with Eaton on at halfback. I guess we know what the BoP plan is now, injure Horrell, Eaton comes on and the game is yours.

If we defend like last week, I expect the game to go the same as the preseason with a high scoring win to the BoP, if we tackle, hopefully we will walk it in being on our home ground.

I think the plan is to ask nicely for Waenga back at halftime...

At least we have a backup goal kicking option with Jackman

Masaga especially...maybe his injury is keeping him there? Burleigh will be because he did that dropkick restart instead of taking the scrum way back where they kicked it from..haha

masaga and burleigh should be starting for sure. hope the BoP forwards work as one this week. Otherise HB will walk all over them.

Is Dagg not allowed to play? thats a shame.

Buckman was a midfield back last year wasnt he? must be desperate.
What does Rokocoko, Donald and Toeava have in common? They should not be All Blacks.

looks like a good night for the game - a bit of dew on the ground, but no rain or wind

Stunning night. Smallish crowd though slowly filling. At least BOP are playing in their proper jerseys this week.

I thought Hawkes Bay won last season so therefore were "The Bay" and that the Bay of Pensioners was "The other bay". Does my memory mislead me?

Fuck me, every lineout taken at the back Bourke forms a maul with 5 players in front of him - happened at least 4 times now but apparently the refs aren't blowing that up now

The Bay with the upper hand over Hawkes in my book so far. Cracking game of rugby so far and I actually (22 mins in)like the way the ref is looking after the breakdown.

Good game of footy! Come on The Bay

Geezuz, that's an interesting stat. Solomon King is the quickest bloke in the BoP side over 10m and 40m. Masaga included.

Guildford still showing the form that got him to being an inconsistent starter for the Hurricanes. Newland seems to be a penalty machine.

Edit: Also strange in the first 10-20 minutes Moa playing 1st receiver waaaay more often than he gets to a breakdown.
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

Man I used to rate Guildford!! He is looking like a quick version of Caleb Ralph, rubbish.

Bay are really dominating this match so far.

Possession was 61 to 39 at half time (I think)
