Please nominate who you think were the superlative second rowers for the season 2011 with your reasons.

If you disagree with a nomination then this thread is your chance to do so – you must say WHY though: furnish reasons for your disagreement! (Or run the risk of deletion!).

Debate at this stage of the process is encouraged.

Polls will be put up later listing nominations’ pros and cons.

Brad Thorn - For being harder than granite and the consummate professionate.
But I've seen games won by teams without any hope at all!

Victor Matfield
The standard

Luke Charteris
Superb since the WC warm up matches. On top of his core duties his tackle count was phenomenal

James Horwill - led the Aussies to the 3N and didn't have a shoddy world cup either.
I can't compare the Oz cricket team with the All Blacks because the Kiwis are humble in their greatness - Lee Grant, 19th December 2008

Sam Whitelock.

1. Kept out Ali, Boric, and everyone else to become first choice partner to Thorn.
2. Beat all his bros to becoming a full blown AB
3. Saders season - well, bits of it.
4. Great first name.

Donncha O'Callaghan & Paul O'Connell

Pros: Demonstrated the very definition of "Tight Forward Play" against Aussie. Lineout options both.
Cons: They are greater as a sum than alone. Not wonderful carriers, maybe.

Matfield - long past his best, but still probably one of the better locks on display at the RWC.

The other big tall Saffa bloke - Bekker? Also plays loose forward but played heaps of RWC with Botha injured. Thought he was pretty powerful. So if someone can name him, I nominate him/

otherwise good calls I reckon.
Irish commentator - "the worst Australian side I have ever seen. Robbie Deans does not have a backup player in almost every position"

Lionel Nallet

Along with Thorn, the best lock at the World Cup. The French lineout was superb, and he's a beast in the tight stuff as well. Hell of a player.
"I had my first refereeing sodomy in the semi-final last season against Clermot. I've just had my second tonight. It appeared to hurt the first time, but it was just as bad this time. We will review the images, not on YouTube, but on YouPorn" - Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal
