Please nominate who you think was the most nasty nipping gnashing nine in 2011 with your reasons.
If you disagree with a nomination then this thread is your chance to do so – you must say WHY though: furnish reasons for your disagreement! (Or run the risk of deletion!).
Debate at this stage of the process is encouraged.
Polls will be put up later listing nominations’ pros and cons.

I'll start this one too ...
Kahn Fotuali'i, Samoa
Would love to have him in Black. Good pass, great organiser. Can play 10. Samoa's best IMO.

Piri Weepu.
Stepped up in the quarter and semi-final of the RWC, steered the ship, kicked his goals. Ditched most of his arse. Saw off long time challenger Cowan and there was no question of his superiority to Ellis this year. Ankle tapped a Frog in the RWC final.

And turned over the ball at the very next ruck to stop the French attack.

Fumiaki Tanaka from Japan, had a great RWC, terrific pass. One of the best number 9's who played through September and October this year.

Ben Youngs, not only was the young man England's best player in 2011 but if the leaked report is true he was doing a lot of the side's coaching too.
But I've seen games won by teams without any hope at all!

So that would be a con?

Very tough to call.
All the nominations above worthy. Genia too.
But as this was WC year, Weepu by a (chicken) finger.

Re Genia. A con would be that he didn't really live up to expectations at the big show.

Genia looked decidedly average in more than one game.
Cowan lost all form.
FdP a shadow of his former self.
Best pass goes to Tanaka.
But despite Weepu's display against the Argies, I'd vote for Mike Phillips; lead from the front, directed traffic well and scored tries when faced with an incompetent, backfiring backline.

A con for Phillips - became a bumbling fool near Wales' exit, knocking on behind the ruck.

Alexander Yanyuskin
Pros - good pass, steer the russian bears around the field and set up one of the best tries with a little dart, shimmy and away for them against Ireland.
Cons - he is bloody tiny - 1.65m in with 5cm sprigs in

Yachvilli. Masterful performances in the last 3 weeks which almost won France a World Cup.
