Please nominate who you think deserves the 2011 Karl Marx award for the most leftist of wingers with your reasons.

Was just going to have a "Wing" thread but apparently some backs think there's a difference between playing on either flank ... personally I just think it's typical backs overcomplicating things.

If you disagree with a nomination then this thread is your chance to do so – you must say WHY though: furnish reasons for your disagreement! (Or run the risk of deletion!).

Debate at this stage of the process is encouraged.

Polls will be put up later listing nominations’ pros and cons.

I'll start!

Digby Ioane.

Fantastic threat on attack. Good mover on his feet. Very quick acceleration. Wobs obviously lesser without him.

Richard Kahui.

Saw off all comers to be the premier winger in New Zealand rugby. Has it all.

Vincent Clerc
Think he plays on the left. Excellent WC.

Shane Williams
Played 11 Tries 6 in 2011. Not bad for a 34 year old

Really? So the best left wing in the world is a centre who lacks outright pace. Who'd have thunk.

Just so I'm not simply a knocker - Shane Williams. Talismanic for the Taffs. Still faster than Kahui even though he'sushing 40. Puts himself about. Makes a lie of the notion that you have to be a brute to make it to the top in footy. Said every time he pulled on the Welsh jersey was the best moment of his life.

DM - Mike reckons Williams is 34. Hardly pushing 40. I reckon I'm pushing 40 and I'm 9 years older than that ...
