For the couple on here who care, the NBL season is nearly half over, and not much has changed from last season really. The Breakers are still very impressive, with a great record and currently leading. Perth are the next best, and are hot on their heels. The other 2 playoff spots are currently filled by the Taipans and the Crocs. So same top 4 as last season.

I thought Melbourne would walk it this year after buying T'Ville's coach, and our 3 best players, but they currently sit 5th, and don't look nearly as good now that their superstar NBA player dropped them at the first sign of more money elsewhere.

As for the Taipans, i can't believe we are 3rd! I thought we would struggle given the outs from the roster from last year, and the way the team started the year. But recently it has been all good, with wins at home over the Blaze, and then great wins over the Breakers and Melbourne. Saturday night was great, beating the Tigers with all our stars from last year, in OT. We are getting really good crowds as well, so the team looks more and more stable and viable.

Looks like its the Breakers' to lose again.

Bumping this thread as I'm one of the few that seem vaguely interested in Breakers here... you and me M4L.

I've gradually got onto the Breakers bandwagon over the last 2-3 years. They are playing some great ball at times and have to say that they know how to put on a show for the punters. Regular sellouts at games, including Vector (>8k) is very impressive for a 'minor' sport without a history of tv coverage.

Last night was a very good game - a top of the table clash with the Perth Wildcats. Those who don't think Bball is a contact sport should check out the highlights - some big physical guys going at it all night. Very good fun and one of the more interesting things on the TV these days. The shift from delayed coverage on Maori tv to Sky Sport seems to have worked wonders. Anyway, Breakers seem to be coping better than I thought without Kirk Penney, and Tom Abercrombie in particular seems to be developing into a bloody good ball player.

Maybe one of the hallmarks of good coaches (see Henry, G. and arguably Wright, J.) is their ability to develop people they are in charge of. It's an attitude and culture thing I guess.

The Breakers look to be slight favourites for the NBL title, but in this league with the top teams it's 'on the night' and who has home ground advantage. Roll on some more good ball and the playoffs! And it still seems too early for rugby ;)

We've got Townsville here tonight, local derbies are always pretty rough affairs. We pretty much need to win it, 2 home losses to fucking Woollongong are really hurting us. THe Taipans are currently outside the 4, but we have 6 home games left, and only 3 away, which is definitely in our favour.

It'll be Perth and NZ playing off, and who wins will probably come down to who has home court.

Great to see Melbourne not winning after buying up big. Ubaka got fired, good fucking job judas.

I'm a big hoops fan. Good game versus Perth I thought although I was disappointed the Breakers let them back into the game in the last 2 mins with stupid turnovers. A comprehensive win would have made more of a statement. The Breakers are looking good and have a more balanced offense without Penney. My only worry is the backup PG if Jackson is in foul trouble or on the bench. As you say, home court advantage will be the key in defending the title.

You're welcome Breakers fans. The Taipans have gone to Perth and got a win, opening the door for the Breakers to get a 2-game lead at the top of the table.

Taipans into 4th, with 3 of our last 4 games at home, so we are in the box seat for a finals spot. And we have the best player in the league right now in Jamar Wilson. Lets hope we don't fuck it up.

Breakers have the best balanced side in the NBL IMO. My only concern is that they've really switched off in some games. LIke a few weeks ago the game at the 'Gong, was very poor and we should've been far more competitive.
