A company (playing2) puts your uploaded picture, with others, on the number on a player's back:

Wales are doing it for the 6N and the NZRU decided to test the waters on Facebook.

Interestingly the reaction from overseas based fans was positive - especially those from the USA. Those from New Zealand on the other hand were, to put it mildly, less than enthusiastic. Practically everyone vented about how the jersey was sacrosanct and not available for crass commercialisation.

After training, I went to check how it was unfolding to find the NZRU had deleted the concept from Facebook. The only surprising aspect was someone thought it might be a good idea.

I think it is a good idea.. what exactly is the problem?

We dont hold that ball to long, we just pass it right along

don't care what other countries do but no for me on anything on the AB jersey other than black, silverfern, addidas logo & number. I can live with a cute white collar ;)

I reckon it's a good idea.

I don't really care, think it's silly though, but if it means an extra buck or two, so be it.

and to be perfectly frank (not Spencer), when the day comes where on the FRONT of the ALL BLACK jersey a big sponsors logo appears, so be it too. When that happens though, there should be zero chances of any NZ player signing overseas ever again, as it'd be worth a pretty penny or three...

I believe that was covered in the OP.

Exactly. Of all things, the growing demand for commercialisation of the All Blacks brand must treat the jersey as the temple of Eshmun.

Its not really even that noticable. Think its a great idea, especially if it means we get to hang on to more talent!

I'd pay 20 bucks to get my mug on the back of Richies jersey as he holds the 2012 rugby championship trophey aloft...

Another dumb gimmick. At least they haven't gone to players' names on the back. So far.

Anything Wales does is unfortunately usually tacky - and this is no different. Cheesy Taffs.

Up there with DNA posters and threaded names and black planes and dirt in jars. Glad they binned it.

If I got to have the jersey afterwards, maybe....so essentially it is just multiple images used to make up the number, therefore unless you were up close and knew where on the number you were, it'd be nigh on impossible to find yourself (unless it was multiple images of you)
