I heard the touchie got a shove from a spectator, the culprit was then told to leave the grounds. No Idea who it was, or which club they were supporting.

oh boring, probably someone who had a few too many after work drinks.

Never good when officials get abused.

Not sure if he is living up here or playing rugby or what but saw Steven Bates doing his shopping at Pak'n'Save yesterday. Would be a good replacement for Cam Eyre if he is living up here...

I think the number 8 from mid western has a northland contract that starts this year, someone correct me if im wrong. but he looks like he's got plenty of ticker.

I watched the Old Boys v HoraHora game, Old boys have a pretty tall second row, but they're scrum was well dominated by HH

Who is the No 8 for MW?

Does anyone know if Danny Mason is back for Kamo?

Whoah, imagine if Bates made himself available, now that would be cool..

Ben berridge is the MW 8. I understand he was on a development contbut act which Northland are not going to renew. Was contracted as a hooker but has not come on as well as Northland thought. Sure is tough enough but if you saw that pre season against HB i don't think Northland won a line out with him at hook. Reckon if he was to concentrate on open side he could make the grade in a year or two.

Dan mason is playing for kamo but is injured at the moment

Mid Northern celebrated 50 years of club rugby with a dinner on Friday night and games on Saturday against their old rivals Kamo - it was a great weekend for the club
the Friday night was sold out well before the night and the older players had a great time remembering their feats on and off the field - the first chaiman of the club attended
was able to tell about the merging of Towai-Maromaku and Hukerenui.   Dooley walked the room with a microphone and got lots of little titbits from various old guys.
Saturday was a sucess as both teams managed with hard fought matches to beat both Kamo teams.    It was great to be involved.   We will be playing Kamo when they
celebrate 125 years.
Weepu for number 9... and Kahui for 2nd 5, and Guilford to the wing.  Also Donald dropped as weepu covers 10. Add Ellison

Yeah sure is. I think anyone could beat anyone on any given day. Hopefully the race to the finals stays tight right up until the last games of the round robin.

I managed to get out and have a look at the opening round of Mangonui club footy last week, all games were at Arnold Rae Park as a part of the Rally Day.

I have to say I was plesantly surprised at the standard . Kaitaia, Rarawa, Motukohu, Waipapakauri-Awanui (Combined this year), Ngati Kuri and Aupouri all look fairly handy.  Eastern and the new Ngaru Roa (Herekino-Broadwood-Panguru) team have a bit of work to do though.

Kaitaia have a Samoan centre who is bloody dynamic, not sure of his name, but I will find out. He wasn't a very big fella, but shit could he move and tackle.

Another standout was Frank Roberts the Ngati Kuri No.8, he single handedly kept them in the game with Kaitaia. The dude is a man-mountain. Supremely fit too. Not sure how old he is, but if young enough, he'd easily fit in the Northland set-up IMO.

Never thought I'd say this, but Ferris and Witcombe best be shooting up here to have a look at some of these blokes.

For the record Kaitaia beat Ngati Kuri 54-43, Awaz-waipap beat Aupouri 12-9, Eastern just pipped Ngaru Roa (dont know score), Rarawa beat Motukohu (dont know score).

Frank Roberts played well for Mangonui in the Harding Shield too bro. Stuck out like dogs balls in the Mangonui team. Hopefully more players make themselves available for the next round of games!! I think he used to play for Mid Northern down here, or am I thinking of someone else?

I still can't believe Waipap and Awanui have had to combine Senior teams, that's absolutely crazy!! Sign of the times though I suppose. Good to see Aupouri back!

I might be a cynic but I can't see that Ahipara/North Hokianga sustaining 3 teams. Good luck to Ngaru Roa but I just don't see them, Te Rarawa and Motukohu all having the resources to manage a whole season. Especially as I have heard the new Rugby League team has been quite proactive with Union players up there.

I read the Northland Age article Justin and they're saying that new centre could have an impact on the comp like Tom Iosefo...still a joke that Northland never showed any interest in that bloke. Anyone that's seen him on the International 7s circuit for Samoa will know he could have been good for Northland.

Isn't the Devt officer Peter Nock? Heard he's good but surely he would be focussing more time on the BoI being based there
Glenn McGrath to Eddo Brandes - "Why are you so fat?"

Eddo Brandes' reply - "Because everytime I **** your wife she gives me a biscuit"

Spot on with all that bro.

Yeah I think Nock is an RDO up these ways, but as you say mate, he's probably more focussed on the Mid-North more than anything, we could be wrong, but thats the impression so far. Be good if we had two RDO's for the Far North, due to the geographical expanse. Hell, I'd do it in Mangonui for free if it meant more players getting a look in up here! haha.

yep, the talk around is this kid is another Tom Iosefo, I'm heading to watch Kaitaia v Rarawa tomorrow, so will report what I see..

Yeah the League club (who incidentially are quite good) have had a bit of an impact on the clubs, especially Waipapakauri and Awanui, who in turn have had to join forces..

But, I guess with Aupouri coming back from the dead, you could argue my last point a bit..

As to Roberts playing with MN, I'm not sure, have heard he may have played for Northland B before. Apparently he's played over in Europe too.

Was at Mid Western v Wellsford game, great game by Mid Western. Standouts IMO were Berridge, Brent Murray, Andy white and Reegan Edwards in the forwards. In the backs Adam Clarke( who played 10!!! That boy can do it all! Controlled the game very well), 2nd 5 who was a big guy and full back Dan Mcully. For wellsford Ross neal at 9 was gutsy as ever and in the forwards The lock coles and prop Davies.

In the end Mid Western were too fit and better drilled. How close is this bloody club comp! Its awesome and anyone can win on the day! Not alot between them all!

The guy you talk about is Shaun Hill. Has moved up here from Canterbury via Hamilton for work. Played Canterbury colts. He played the full 80 for the reserves, then came on in the prems after 5 minutes when Brook Gilmore aggravated his knee again, and was subbed off with 5 or 10 to go.... so a good 150 odd minutes of rugby for him yesterday!!! This is the first time I've ever seen it happen, but he got POD for both teams!!!! Can skull a pint very quickly that lad!!
