The Chiefs have negotiated a handful of changes to their forward pack for next year's Super 15 rugby championship.
The Waikato Times reported today the franchise have contracted Taranaki flanker Scott Waldrom from the Hurricanes and Otago lock Hayden Triggs from the Highlanders.
The newspaper also revealed the Chiefs have lost Bay of Plenty flanker Luke Braid, who has joined older brother Daniel at the Blues, along with Taranaki forward Jarrad Hoeata, a Chiefs draft player this year who is to join the Highlanders.
Happy with picking up Hoeata, replacing like with like, in terms of losing Triggs. As a Highlanders fan I would really like to see Slade signed up as soon as possible, he holds the key to any sucess next year. According to the New Zealand herald, we are also after Kade Poki, if we get him I suspect he would be paired with with Ben Smith in the midfield. I would perfer for us to try and get Jayden Hayward back as the coaching staff of the last couple of years never gave him the chances he deserved, and a midfield pairing of him and Ben SMith could be quite exciting.

One man I would love to see given a decent run in SUper 15 next year is the Stags 8 Elliott Dixon, I reakon he is one of the most talented 8's running around, but no one would realise that more than Joseph.

Bit strange for Waldrom to go to the Chiefs given that Latimer is already there.

So who has gone to the Canes to replace Waldrom then? If it's G Whitelock, Hammett best prepare himself for a torrent of abuse.

    (From me obviously).

Rennie, Joseph, Russell, Penney, Hammett. The Mickey Mouse Canes keep rolling on.

The obvious bonus is that Lowe will get consistent game time. Perhaps Vito to cover 7 and hopefully we can pick up whichever of Hardie or Soakai is deemed as surplus at the Highlanders?
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

I like Soakai - very underrated in NZ rugby and I expect the Highlanders will try to hold on to him.
Will be good to see consistent game time for Lowe.

Waldrom!!! to usurp Lattimer im afraid... Waldrom would suit the helter skelter rugby of the chiefs. I tell you what, I hope the Highlanders sign Masaga, because he is awful now! chiefs have sivi, Nanai, Sweeney, and Tokula can cover. laters Magasa.
What does Rokocoko, Donald and Toeava have in common? They should not be All Blacks.

If Crusaders pick up Adam Thompson then will there be enough room in the budget for a player like George Whitelock. You would think not. And will that mean Sam follows suit if he does go somewhere like the canes haha.
I reakon the Hurricanes Loose Forwards will look similar to Victor Vito, Karl Lowe, 8??? then backed up by R So'oialo, Croswell, Coman, Whitelock, Reddish, Levavae.

I'm a fan of Lowe really deserves a good run. Vito, Lowe , Soialo looks a pretty good combo too me.

Nah i disagree with So'oialo. I feel they need to use younger talent as a starting option as Rodney eems uneffecitve now when it comes to the crunch. Maybe if the Hurricanes can get Nasi Manu from Cant or Matthew Laumanu back from NH.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Waldrom's thinking there. Barring an injury to Latimer, he'll be sitting on the bench quite a bit.

Masaga really hasn't been the same since he was injured in the 2009 S14. He's had a couple of good runs since but just not as consistent. His reputation alone will probably get him a Chiefs spot but yeah, I'm not sure I'd select him either.

Triggs is a good signing though. Clarke, Triggs and Retallick are probably the best locking trio the Chiefs have had since Upton, Gibbes and Robinson (when those last two weren't injured anyway).

great if he has, he obvisouly saw he was on the outer at the 'saders and came back and signed with Northland after a 2 year loan-back with Canterbury.

Manawatu rugby players Nick Crosswell and Aaron Smith have signed with the Highlanders for next year's Super 15 championship.
Flanker Crosswell is shifting allegiances from the Hurricanes while halfback Smith was in the Blues' wider training squad.
Manawatu captain Crosswell told the Manawatu Standard he was lured south by the appointment of former All Blacks loose forward and Wellington mentor Jamie Joseph as Highlanders coach.
"I have heard about him from the Wellington boys," Crosswell said.
"He sounds a no-nonsense type of coach and will have a fantastic team environment."
So the worst Super Franchise is recruiting from the worst ITM Cup team. That makes sense.

Nah their not yet, but I would expect plenty of Otago players to make the Highlanders. Maybe you should re-phrase the worst Super 15 franchise HAS to recruit from the worst ITM cup team, becasue they're based there.

If JJ had some sense he would be trying to sign up a few of the CM Boys before Ferrit gets his hands on them.

Stowers should be on thier radar, given he is a 7'splayer, he hasntplayed any S14 and most likely not be protected by the Chiefs (due to abundance of outside backs)

with the new contracting rules how many "protected" players can a side keep to their catchment or is all that gone to open slather?
All Blacks, Poverty Bay, BoP Steamers, Breakers, Everton, Kansas Chiefs, assorted Underdogs!

    Champion.

Even with a game up our sleeve we're still not last.
And Crozzie and Smith are hardly the worst recruits anyway, you would struggle to argue they're not S15 quality.

Lets not forget each franchise can take an extra 6 players cos of the length of the super15 season...will the chiefs protect more outside backs than before?
Either way, more NPC players are gonna get Super15 contracts this time round
