It is the end of an era in Northland rugby with the retirement of long serving first-five David Holwell.

The controversial Northland Events Centre will host 2 Rugby World Cup matches in 2011, Rugby New Zealand 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden confirmed today. Northland rugby administrators and fans alike will be ecstatic that we have been included in world Rugby's 2011 showpiece where Whangarei will play host to 2 matches. Both matches will be played on Wednesdays and will both feature Tonga, while their opposition in both matches is yet to be determined, it is likely to be USA or Canada in one, and possibly Japan in the other.
